Job Summary
As a Custom Software Engineer (Python Tester), you will design, implement, and maintain automated tests to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of applications built using Python.
You will collaborate with developers, product owners, and DevOps teams to translate requirements into effective test strategies while applying Agile practices and ensuring scalable and high-performing software delivery.
The role also focuses on test automation, CI/CD integration, continuous testing, and defect analysis to enhance engineering efficiency and product quality.
Role Overview
- Enable full-stack testing solutions through collaborative planning and ecosystem integration.
- Perform continuous testing across security, APIs, and regression suites.
- Develop automation strategies and automated scripts to support efficient testing.
- Configure testing environments and test data for reliable execution.
- Participate in code reviews and defect analysis to improve software quality.
- Monitor testing metrics and drive continuous improvement across the application lifecycle.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Work independently and grow into a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Python test automation.
- Participate in design and review discussions to improve application testability and shift-left quality practices.
- Analyze requirements and user stories to derive test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
- Develop and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, API, UI) using Python frameworks.
- Apply test design patterns such as fixtures, parametrization, page objects, and mocking.
- Troubleshoot test failures and identify root causes across code, data, and environments.
- Integrate automated tests with CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable builds.
- Track and report quality metrics such as test coverage, defect density, and build health.
- Collaborate with developers, product owners, and DevOps teams to ensure high-quality releases.
- Document test scenarios, environments, and reproduction steps for defects.
Professional & Technical Skills
Must-Have Skills
- Strong proficiency in Python and testing frameworks such as pytest or unittest
- Experience in Data Warehouse ETL Testing
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
- Experience in API testing using tools such as requests, Postman, or Insomnia
- Knowledge of test automation patterns including fixtures, mocking, and parametrization
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
- Experience with CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins
- Ability to debug failures and analyze logs, stack traces, and pipeline outputs
Good-to-Have Skills
- UI automation tools such as Playwright or Selenium
- Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) frameworks such as pytest-bdd or Behave
- Code quality tools like coverage.py, flake8, pylint, black, and isort
- Experience with Docker and containerized testing environments
- Basic knowledge of SQL and database testing
- Exposure to performance testing tools such as JMeter or Locust
- Awareness of security testing practices and OWASP Top 10
Qualification
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in software testing or automation
- 15 years of full-time education (Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field preferred)
