A day in the life of a software test engineer involves:

1. Executing and documenting software tests using manual and/or automation methodologies.
2. Developing testing strategies and protocols with the latest software best practices.
3. Creating test strategies, reviewing test designs, validating test scripts, and verifying software for Surgical Robotic Medical Systems.
4. Providing support for Non-product tool validation (NPTV).
5. Navigating complex industry and government regulations, including IEC62304, IEC82304, and FDA QSR requirements.
6. Developing, documenting, and testing software to meet end-user needs and business objectives.
7. Providing assistance to development teams.
8. Committing to achieving and exceeding project goals and timelines.
9. Collaborating with other disciplines to develop system-minded implementations that consider safety, performance, communication, user interface, and other aspects of a final Medical Device product.
10. Working in a cross-functional Agile team across global R&D teams to test software for new and existing medical device products.
11. Participating in reviews of requirements, design, implementation, and testing to ensure quality standards are met.
12. Analyzing unexpected, undesirable, or non-understood behavior in software and software-hardware interactions and documenting defect analysis results.
13. Following the IEC 62304 standard and project documents such as the software development plan and coding standards.
14. Participating in other quality assurance functions such as static code analysis, risk/hazard analysis, and test automation development.
15. Being an excellent team player with good communication skills.
16. Meeting key business KPI/project metrics.

The minimum qualifications for this role include:

1. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical, Electronics or equivalent from a reputed institution.
2. 8 to 10 years of experience in Embedded Software verification and Validation, with at least two years’ experience in the Medical device/Medical IT or regulated industry.
3. Knowledge of C++ software and RTOS in an Embedded development environment.
4. Experience in both white box and black box testing.
5. Experience in hardware/software interfacing and design issues.
6. Experience in test automation, preferably using Python.
7. Participating in System design, coordinating with teams, and internal product management.
8. Understanding of field-bus technology (EtherCAT preferred) and standard embedded communication protocols (DDS, SPI, I2C, AXI, UART, etc.).
9. Experience with software risk analysis (per ISO 14971), including software failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
10. Awareness of Medical Device standards IEC 60601-1, IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and applicable FDA standards.
11. Excellent debugging skills and problem-solving capabilities.
12. Experience working in a structured software development environment following a well-defined software development process like Agile/Lean.
13. Being a great individual contributor and team player.
14. Possessing qualities such as being positive, having high standards, being resilient, open, and creative.
15. Appreciating the discipline and work required to develop software in a regulated industry.
