Tata IPL 2023: On Sunday (April 2), the Gujarat Titans franchise announced that Kane Williamson, one of their batters, will be unable to participate in IPL 2023 due to a knee injury. Williamson sustained the injury during the Titans’ opening game against the Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In a media release, Vikram Solanki, the Titans’ director of cricket, expressed his disappointment, saying, “It is unfortunate to lose Kane to injury at such an early stage in the tournament. We hope for his speedy recovery and anticipate seeing him back in action soon.”
Williamson suffered the injury in the 13th over of the first innings of the IPL opener, while attempting to catch the ball at the deep square leg boundary. Despite successfully preventing a six from Ruturaj Gaikwad, Williamson landed harshly on his right knee, causing him to experience significant pain. He was assisted off the field, and the Titans substituted Sai Sudarshan as the Impact Player in his place.
Williamson, a former New Zealand captain, was signed by the Titans for his base price of INR 2 Crore at the auction, having previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he had recently recovered from an elbow injury that had bothered him for a few years.
The Titans have not yet announced a replacement for Williamson. They have stated that they will select a replacement for the right-handed batter and will reveal the details when the time is right.
