Role Overview

The Specialist – Quality Assurance / Tester is responsible for validating software applications, data migrations, and reporting solutions to ensure they meet defined quality standards.

In this role, you will focus on testing SQL-based data processes and Power BI reports, ensuring that data is accurately migrated, transformed, and presented. You will collaborate with developers, data engineers, and analysts to deliver reliable and high-quality data solutions that support informed business decisions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze business requirements, data mapping documents, and report specifications to identify testing scenarios.
  • Design and execute test cases for data migrations, ETL processes, and Power BI dashboards.
  • Perform functional, integration, system, and regression testing to validate application changes.
  • Use SQL queries to validate data accuracy across source and target systems.
  • Compare record counts and validate data transformations according to business rules.
  • Identify issues such as missing data, formatting errors, or integrity violations.
  • Log and track defects using tools like JIRA or Azure DevOps with detailed evidence and reproduction steps.
  • Collaborate with developers, DBAs, BI developers, and business analysts to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Test Planning & Documentation

  • Participate in test planning, estimation, and execution activities.
  • Prepare and manage test data for SQL validations and reporting scenarios.
  • Maintain test documentation including:
    • Test plans
    • Test cases
    • SQL validation scripts
    • Data validation checklists
    • Test execution reports
  • Support basic automation or reusable SQL scripts for data comparison where applicable.
  • Work in a matrix environment, collaborating with both project managers and functional managers.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–6 years of experience in software testing or quality assurance.
  • Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).
  • Experience in manual testing, test case design, and defect tracking.
  • Familiarity with test management tools such as:
    • JIRA
    • Azure DevOps
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure data accuracy and reporting quality.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

SQL & Data Validation Skills

Candidates should have practical experience using SQL for testing and validation, including:

  • Writing SELECT queries with joins, filters, and aggregations
  • Validating data consistency between source and target systems
  • Performing record count and totals validation
  • Understanding relational database concepts such as tables, keys, joins, and relationships

Power BI Testing Skills

Experience or exposure to Power BI report and dashboard testing, including:

  • Verifying that visuals, KPIs, and dashboards display correct data
  • Testing filters, slicers, and interactions between report visuals
  • Reviewing basic Power BI data models and relationships
  • Ensuring accuracy and usability of reports for business users
