Rec Room Job Description:

Position: QA Tester – Rec Room

Rec Room is the ultimate destination for collaborative game development and play. Join us to chat, socialize, explore an extensive array of rooms, or create something entirely new to share with the community! Our mission is to ensure that Rec Room remains a fun and inclusive environment for people from diverse backgrounds. Given the size and complexity of our app, continuous testing is essential, and that’s where you come in!

In this role, you will:

1. Join our Experience Team and test new Rec Room original rooms, controls, and UI elements within our game client.
2. Spend the majority of your time in Rec Room, using various screen-based devices and VR headsets. You’ll become a true expert on all things Rec Room!
3. Collaborate closely with the entire Rec Room team, including fellow QA testers and developers, to develop comprehensive test plans.
4. Provide detailed status reports, contributing to the quality metrics of embedded teams.
5. Ensure the bug database is always up-to-date with high-quality bug reports.
6. Work closely with the Rec Room team and other QA testers and developers to understand and reproduce bugs during the development of new features.
7. Occasionally participate in special events like trailer shoots and community town halls.
8. Act as a bug hunter, investigating the causes of specific issues and engaging in multiplayer sessions with Rec Room Community members.

Requirements:

1. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in game or software testing.
2. Ability to write and execute test plans effectively.
3. Proficiency in creating high-quality reproducible steps.
4. Capability to handle multiple tasks and work in an ambiguous environment with complex problems.
5. Methodical and detail-oriented work style.
6. Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning skills in a fast-paced and ambiguous setting.
7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
8. Ability to adapt to remote work and align with West Coast workday schedules.

Bonus Points for:

1. Experience in testing AAA game titles.
2. Familiarity with testing multiplayer video games.
3. Knowledge of testing cross-platform games.
4. Experience using Azure DevOps [Boards] or a similar bug tracking tool.
5. Familiarity with online gaming communities (e.g., Steam, Reddit, Discord, Twitter, specific game forums).
6. Understanding of Unity/Unreal game engines (even as a hobbyist).
7. Experience with VR devices in general.
8. Experience with user-generated content (UGC) games.
9. Interest in or experience with game development.
10. Familiarity with Rec Room specifically.
